What do people really think about public transport – and what would encourage them to use it more?

Global research agency Savanta partner annually with Hitachi Rail to create the "Better Connected" research report. In this year’s report, Savanta asked 12,000 people in 12 global cities around the world about their attitudes to public transport.

The results have helped Hitachi Rail – and their stakeholders - to get valuable insights on how to encourage more people to take up public transport within cities, between cities – and even across national borders.

To drive the mobility transition and help beat both congestion and carbon targets in our cities, passengers need to be able to access affordable, reliable public transport in the most convenient way. Most importantly, they must be able to access multimodal journeys and be able to use a range of ticket and payment solutions – and operators must be able to keep up with these trends.

With more data available than ever, there is an opportunity to integrate multimodal transportation systems in a way that improves the passenger experience and optimizes how operators manage their operations. But collecting, connecting, analysing and acting on this wealth of data is a challenge. Some cities, however, are already pioneering smarter mobility with solutions from Hitachi Rail.

In this session we will explore how rail can act as the backbone of a multimodal smart mobility solution, supporting the optimization of bus, smart parking and using AI to support people flow management.
